'World’s Smallest' Single Chip 2.4GHz Wireless System-on-Chip PDF Print E-mail
The Nordic Semiconductor nRF24LE1 is an ultra-low power (ULP) system-on-chip (SoC) that integrates  a 2.4GHz transceiver core (the nRF24L01+) and a mixed signal 8-bit microcontroller with flash memory into a single chip solution for ULP wireless applications. This chip is available in a miniaturized 4 x 4 mm QFN package making it reportedly the smallest ULP single chip wireless solution available today. The nRF24LE1 is for the ULP wireless market because it can run both RF protocol stack and application layer on a single chip. The nRF24LE1 also integrates an enhanced 8051 mixed signal MCU core featuring fewer clock cycles per instruction than legacy 8051 devices. Most instructions need just one or two clock cycles leading to an average performance improvement of 8X using the MIPS (Million Instructions Per Second) benchmark. This high performance combined with 16kbytes of on-chip flash plus 1kbyte of SRAM ensures the processing platform is powerful enough to run both the RF protocol stack and application layer with ease.
