- Siemens, Samsung C&T and Pattern Energy have come to agreement for the supply of up to 600 MW of Siemens wind turbines to serve the Ontario renewables market and Siemens will build Ontario's first blade factory as part of a plan to meet Samsung, and Pattern Energy's demand. The development of this agreement, under Ontario's Green Energy Act and the associated Feed-in Tariff (FIT) program, will provide Ontario consumers enough sustainable clean electricity each year to power more than 240,000 homes. Siemens has been working with Samsung C&T and its development partner Pattern Energy, on this first phase of development under Ontario's FIT program where Samsung has committed to develop 2,000 MW of wind power over the next six years. Siemens will supply technologically advanced wind turbines at selected projects in southern Ontario and the implementation of this agreement will create up to 300 "green collar" jobs and up to an additional 600 construction and indirect service jobs over its term. "Canada continues to be a major wind power market for Siemens and we are pleased to reach this milestone with Samsung on the first phase of Ontario's FIT program," stated Bill Smith, Senior Vice President Energy for Siemens Canada. "Ontario's Green Energy Act and the FIT program are important enablers for the development of clean sources of energy, and the Ontario government has shown tremendous leadership in ensuring that the province is one of the world's most progressive jurisdictions. Our blade factory will enable the Ontario market and will deploy Siemens' state-of-the-art blade manufacturing technology in doing so." "Attracting the province's first-ever turbine blade factory is a major milestone in Ontario's plan to create 50,000 jobs and become a North American leader in the clean energy economy," said Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Brad Duguid. "Ontario is open for business and we look forward to welcoming more renewable energy firms to help boost local economies and deliver a clean electricity supply to Ontarians in every corner of the province." "Pattern Energy has a long history of working with Siemens and we are very pleased to be participating in this order," said Mike Garland, Chief Executive Officer of Pattern Energy. "We have a deep respect for the high quality of Siemens' turbines, which we have utilized in the development of many premier wind projects." www.siemens.com/energy www.patternenergy.com Recommended for you Electrovaya awarded $5 million from SDTC for plug-in hybrid electric vehicle battery development McGuinty announces investment of up to $16.7 million for Electrovaya Plans in motion for Hamilton's eco-friendly park Day4 Energy successfully completes two major photovoltaic projects in Germany Ready to plug in an electric RAV4?
