Provinces Tackle e-waste Problem

Disposing of waste electronic equipment (ewaste) is not like disposing ordinary trash. Electronic equipment typically contains hazardous metals such as lead, cadmium and mercury. Historically 90 percent of Canada’s electronic waste has been sent to landfills. Only 10 percent has been recycled or refurbished.
Lead, cadmium and mercury in the waste threatens landfills and area groundwater. There is a need for a more environmentally friendly approach.

Computer Buyback and Recycling Programs aid in reducing the amount of electronics in landfills by refurbishing for reuse or by safely recycling it. Offering recycling, trade in, and buyback programs offer customers a simple way to receive cash for their unwanted technology equipment or, if there is no value, recycle it.
