Embedded conference reflects industry optimism PDF Print E-mail

Record numbers turned out for this year's Embedded Systems and ElectronicaUSA conference reflecting optimism for growth in the electronics industry.

Sharing in that optimism was a respectable contingent of Canadian companies representing high tech hardware, software and distribution.

Show organizers said nearly 13,000 people attended the conference, a 30 per cent increase over last year. The show's 430 exhibitors represented a 50 per cent increase over the previous year.

The exhibition showcased more than 8,000 products and services from companies including ATI Technologies, Spectrum Signal Processing and Intel, as well as major RTOS and EDA companies, such as Wind River, LynuxWorks, and Microsoft.

Future Electronics of Pointe Claire, Que. chose the conference to market its Technical Solutions Management (TSM) program, which consists of factory trained consultants and engineering resource centres that together accelerate product design. The distributor staffs 120 TSMs in North America who specialize in Netcom, FPGAs, DSPs, RF, displays and analog products. The two engineering resource centres in North America, in Baltimore and Austin, provide services in design, fabrication, and promotion of the 'working sample.'

On the invitation of the SDR (software defined radio) Forum, a group that supports the use of open architectures for advanced wireless systems, Burnaby-based Spectrum Signal Processing delivered a presentation on distributed architectures. The company's FlexComm SDR-3000 software was recently selected for the U.S. Department of Defense Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) Joint Program Office (JPO) as a representative JTR hardware set.
