Economic Action Plan supports semiconductor innovation in British Columbia PDF Print E-mail
Minister Gary Lunn announces investment to help Redlen Technologies develop leading-edge technology.
-
The Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of State for Sport and Member of Parliament for Saanich-Gulf Islands, on behalf of the Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State (Science and Technology), announced a contribution of $747,355 to Redlen Technologies Inc. from the National Research Council of Canada's Industrial Research Assistance Program.

The funding supports innovative research and development projects that will assist Redlen Technologies in developing high-tech solutions for global markets.

"Our government is investing in science and technology to create good jobs, strengthen the economy and improve Canadians' quality of life," said Minister Lunn. "This government is supporting Canadian firms that successfully develop and apply innovative technologies. Canada's Economic Action Plan is supporting scientific research and commercialization, while creating good jobs and economic growth."

The contribution to Redlen Technologies Inc. will support the company in refining a proprietary process that produces semiconductor radiation detectors used in medical and security imaging. These detectors will be more sensitive and less expensive to produce, thereby allowing more hospitals access to the equipment needed to assist in detecting diseases earlier and more accurately.

During the event, Minister Lunn also presented a Canadian Innovation Leader Certificate to Redlen Technologies Inc. to highlight their success as innovative Canadian firms that has successfully linked scientific research to commercialization, jobs and economic growth.

Founded in 1999, Redlen Technologies Inc. is a leading manufacturer of high resolution Cadmium Zinc Telluride (CZT) semiconductor radiation detectors, which make possible a new generation of high performance detection and imaging equipment, including nuclear cardiology, CT scanning, baggage scanning and 'dirty bomb' detection.

"NRC-IRAP has been highly supportive over many years of Redlen Technologies in its quest to manufacture world-leading radiation detectors and photovoltaic products," said Mr. Glenn Bindley, CEO of Redlen Technologies.
